Reimagining Productivity with Safety Solutions from Rockwell Automation®

5/30/2024

Meeting safety compliance and the demands of productivity do not have to be competing priorities. Incorporating smart safety solutions from Rockwell Automation into machine designs can provide both enhanced safety and detailed diagnostic information that expedites troubleshooting efforts and increases operational efficiency. Using connected and intelligent assets reduces complexity and the risk of error in machine/human interactions, whether those are part of the design, operation or maintenance processes. Below is a sampling of products from Rockwell Automation’s safety product portfolio, with details of their contributions to the modern, Connected Enterprise.

E-Stops and Safety Switches

E-stops, interlock switches, non-contact safety switches, machine access control products, safety limit switches and other similar products are cost-effective solutions for protecting people and equipment from hazards. Through physical interlocking of guard doors and access control, these products allow personnel to access an area only when they are safe from potential hazards. The applications for these simple, safe tools are numerous.

Features & Benefits

  • Flexible line of solutions that meet global standards for safety, quality and reliability
  • Maximize uptime while creating safer working environments
  • Versions available that use CIP Safety™ over EtherNet/IP connections

PowerFlex Drives

The PowerFlex® line of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) offers safety options (control modes, global outages, power ratings, etc.) that protect both people and equipment. This flexible portfolio can be applied to most applications within a facility, keeping users connected to their operations and offering diagnostic and predictive analytics to improve productivity. PowerFlex drives are designed for performance and a simplified user experience, easing every step of operation, from selection, system design, and drive configuration to maintenance.

Features & Benefits

  • Real-time, embedded diagnostic and predictive analytics
  • Automatic response to application changes
  • High-performance motor control

Presence Sensing Safety Devices

Presence sensing safety devices (including safety laser scanners, safety mats, and hand detection safety sensors) from Allen-Bradley® reduce the risks inherent to human-machine interactions. In doing so, they can also increase the efficiency of operations. For example, safety light curtains use photoelectric presence sensors to make a barrier to machinery hazards, replacing hard guarding and gates. Without the extra time required to remove mechanical guards every time maintenance is performed, production can move more smoothly. Additionally, as safety light curtains from Rockwell Automation are smart solutions, they can offer detailed diagnostic data about which specific beams were tripped whenever there is a downtime event, helping operators identify the root of the problem.

Features & Benefits

  • Flexible solutions that are adaptable to a wide range of environments
  • Smarter protection that can provide insight into productivity concerns
  • Easier injury prevention through connected devices and intuitive design
